[OT] Flightradar24 App is Really Cool!

This is a bit off-topic, but if you haven’t checked out the Flightradar24 app, it’s worth it.  I use it on my iPhone to track flights around the world (for fun). My favorite feature is the AR mode. You can aim your phone at a plane flying overhead. If it has ADS-B Out, the app will provide info on the aircraft with To/From info, Airspeed and Altitude. I upgraded to the Silver level plan to get Vertical Speed as well. Really cool stuff!

In the settings tab, you can change the map type and text labels on each aircraft. You can visualize ATC boundaries, Navaids, Victor Airways, weather, etc. but my favorite feature is in the Alerts menu. Here you can set alerts for any aircraft declaring an emergency (7700) or radio failure (7600). I was incredibly surprised to see that this happens every day around the world. From my estimates, there’s at least 1-2 emergencies and radio failures per day. That is kind of shocking. The app allows you to track the aircraft from it’s point of origin to destination.

I don’t know what this guy is doing, but this is interesting.
